USM CONTINUES AS CO-ORGANISER OF 6th MALAYSIA INTERNATIONAL YOUNG INVENTORS OLYMPIAD
SUNGAI PETANI, 13 April 2019 - Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) through the Regional Centre of Expertise Penang (RCE Penang) continues as co-organiser of the 8th Malaysia International Young Inventors Olympiad (MIYIO) 2019, which kicked off recently at the Sungai Petani Municipal Council Hall.
With more than 318 school-led teams taking part, submitting their projects in 7 different categories, MIYIO 2019 has truly become an international platform for young inventors, from the age of 10-17, to showcase their brilliant and amazing inventions since the programme started in 2014.
The annual competition, with this year’s tagline “Are You Ready to Change the World?” is organised by the Division of Residential Management/Cluster, Ministry of Education Malaysia and co-organised by Sekolah Menengah Sains Sultan Mohamad Jiwa, RCE Penang@USM, Centre for Global Sustainable Studies and the Parents-Teachers Association of Sekolah Menengah Sains Sultan Mohamad Jiwa.
The competition is opened to all residential school students in Malaysia, as well as schools of similar nature from abroad. The entries need to be presented according to the ascribed categories and the winning entries would be awarded gold, silver or bronze medals in each category.
Local entries totalled at 175, while international participants submitted 143 entries. Among the international entries, those from Turkmenistan submitted the highest number at 44 while the United States of America has 1, being a first-time participant. Other countries include Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Iraq, Nigeria, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
